Nigel, Paul McCormack(?) & yours truly sallied forth over to Afan for what was likely to be a very cold ride, with the forecast at 5C max & NE wind, F6.

In the end, the sun shone, we were sheltered from the wind for much of the trail after having been almost blown over in the car park, and Huw joined us for a jolly jaunt.

Checking my diary, the last time I did White's Level was Nov 2004, and that was the 1st time - no wonder I couldn't recall any of the trail!

We made a fairly leisurely ascent and took a number of breaks during the climb.

The Northshore section is excellent: I almost cleared it but for not taking one of the tight, right-angled turns quite wide enough for my back wheel to stay on the boards. The two sharp-peaked "lumps" towards the end took me by surprise though I just cleared them. Nigel fared slightly less well at this point, & I think Huw & Paul took the sensible option.

I'd forgotten how good the downhill section is on this trail, especially the last 1/2 mile or so with all the stone steps & jumps. Excellent!!!
